To help users make an informed decision, we decided to do a real-world test and compare Max Registry and MyRegistryCleaner from PCSecurityShield side by side. Both programs are solid, reputable registry fixers, with a plethora of useful features, and a price that most people will find affordable (.95). So the only way to see which one’s worth the money asked was a side by side test on a real machine.
Hardware and Windows version
Both registry cleaners were tested on a Celeron 4 PC running Windows XP SP3. This machine had XP installed for over a year, and because we didn’t do any registry housekeeping, was starting to get real sluggish.
Which one is easier to use?
After installing and playing around with both programs, we were pleased to see both of them were very straightforward. Both registry cleaners are easy to use, with all important features easily accessible. So even if you never used a registry repair tool before, you’ll have no trouble finding your way around either of them.
Which one’s better at discovering registry problems?
This feature is critical, as you want your registry software to discover all possible problems that slow down your PC and cause application crashes and error messages. After an automatic scan, Max Registry identified 187 errors and invalid items on our PC. This makes sense, since we never cleaned the registry junk on this machine. Unfortunately, MyRegistryCleaner appears to not dig that deep. Granted, it finished the scan 30 seconds faster than Max Registry, but the number of errors was significantly less, only 112.

Which one’s better at fixing registry errors?
For the test to be fair, we first backed up the entire registry using Max Registry’s backup feature, then ran MyRegistryCleaner, told it to fix all errors, restored the erroneous registry from backup, ran the Max Registry software, fixed all problems, and compared the results.
According to our tests, Max Registry truly shines at registry clean up. Not only did it find 41.1% more garbage in the registry, it also managed to clean it all up on the first take. MyRegistryCleaner could not fix 30 items on the first take, and needed another run to fix them.
So which one’s the best registry cleaner?
That’s ultimately for you to decide. Max Registry did perform better in our tests, however, it may have performed a bit differently under different hardware or Windows version. Plus, MyRegistryCleaner was a bit faster when scanning the registry, which is something some users may prefer.
We will continue to test both Max Registry and MyRegistryCleaner under XP and Vista to help users make the right choice when choosing the best registry cleaner for their PC.
